“Modernisation of University Education Programmes in Foreign Languages by integrating information Technologies “(DigiFLEd)

The University of Western Macedonia, School of Social Sciences and Humanities link, are taking part in DigiFLEd, a three-year EU-funded project to improve the quality of higher education in Ukraine through the integration of information technology.
This project focuses on building the capacity of Ukrainian Universities by modernizing and digitalizing 24 foreign language (FL) curricula. In the context of the current geo-political challenges facing Ukraine, the development of an accessible digital learning environment is crucial. DigiFLEd aims to ensure the continuity and resilience of educational processes, thereby preserving and nurturing Ukraine’s human capital for the future.
The project “Modernization of University Education Programmes in Foreign Languages (DigiFLEd), begun in January 2024 with EU funding of 718.932,00 EUR.
The Erasmus+ Capacity Building for Higher Education project is coordinated by Tampere University in Finland and aims to build the capacity of universities in Ukraine by modernizing and Digitalizing 24 foreign language curricula. The target groups are students, university teaching stuff and school teachers, with around 1,400 people expected to benefit from the project.

Professor Domna Michail, the project’s lead for UOWM has stated: “In light of Ukraine’s ongoing geopolitical challenges, creating a digital learning environment that is both inclusive and accessible, is essential. DigiFLEd is designed to maintain continuity in education and strengthen its resilience, helping to preserve and develop Ukraine’s human capital for the years ahead”.
The project involves benchmarking visits of Ukrainian teams to the EU partner universities, train-the- trainers courses, development and piloting of seven ICT-enhanced courses for Ukrainian universities in collaboration with European peers, establishing a network of virtual resource centers, employer-networking events and a final conference.
Aside from University of Western Macedonia and Tampere University, the DigiFLEd consortium includes the University of Maynooth School of Business and its Centre for Teaching and Learning in Ireland, along with the seven Ukrainian Universities:
